  1. Do we have to sign a contract?
    We never ask our clients to sign a contract. We take pride in the fact that our clients call us when they have a need because they prefer to use our service. We have, however, signed contracts when asked to do so by our clients.

  2. What are your fees?
    Direct Hire - Our direct hire fees are 1% per thousand of the annualized salary of the position. For example, a position paying $20,000 would generate a placement fee of 20% or $4,000.00. For positions paying over $25,000, the fee is capped at 25%. We provide a 30 day unconditional no fault guarantee with all direct hires!

    Temporary - Our temporary fees are hourly and depend upon the qualifications needed for the position. These rates are quoted on a per-position basis.

    Temp to Hire - A combination of temporary and direct hire, in which an applicant remains an employee of our firm until an employment offer is made by your firm. Those rates are:
    1. If hired within 60 calendar days or less from the start date, the standard direct-hire fee schedule will apply.
    2. If hired after 60 calendar days, one half of the direct hire fee schedule will apply.
    3. If hired after 120 calendar days, NO CHARGE will be madeSJust convert the individual to your payroll and you have a new employee whose ability to perform has already been proven on the job.

  3. How do you screen/test applicants?
    We interview every applicant face to face. Then we complete a thorough reference check and do the applicable testing based on their skills and experience. By taking these steps, we are can accurately measure them against other applicants in the available talent pool and send you the best candidates available!

  5. Does Matthews offer benefits to temporary employees?
    We do offer temporary employees holiday benefits after 6 months of service, and vacation benefits after 1 year of service.

  6. Does Matthews do background checks and drug testing?
    Matthews does not conduct criminal background checks or drug test every applicant. However, if a company has a policy regarding pre-employment background checks and drug test, Matthews will accommodate such requests at no additional charge to the client company. It is important for our clients to understand there must be a policy in place for such testing and not just test candidates simply because they were referred by Matthews Employment.

  1. What should I bring with me?
    Please bring a copy of your resume. In addition, it is helpful to have the phone numbers of any business and personal references you will be listing on your application.you.

  2. Can I fill out an application online?
    No, our application is not available online. We invite you to come into our office to fill out our application.

  3. What kind of jobs do you have?
    We recruit for positions ranging from industrial to professional positions such as: Warehouse, Shipping and Receiving, Skilled Machine Operators, Clerical, Accounting, Managerial and Sales.

  4. What are your hours? Are you open on weekends?
    Our office is open Monday - Friday 8am-5pm.

  5. What geographic areas do you service?
    Our clients are mostly in the Lake County Area. However, we do have clients as far north as the Racine, Wisconsin area and as far south as the Northbrook/Deerfield area. We also service some parts of McHenry County and Northern Cook County. It is important to discuss your commuting requirements during your interview at Matthews.

  6. Does your service cost me anything?
    No. Our service is free to our applicants.

  7. Where are you located?
    Our Waukegan office is located at 321 Grand Ave. We are 3 blocks west of Sheridan Road and 2 blocks north of the Lake County Courthouse.

  8. How long will it take to place me?
    This is a difficult question as each person has their own unique skills and talents. Market conditions(demand by employers), the amount of people available (those unemployed in your field), and your own salary and commuting requirements all factor into the equation of how fast we are able to find you a position and whether that position is acceptable to you.

  9. Do you have part time work?
    Part time as defined by a work week less than 40 hours-yes, we have employers that hire for part time positions.

  10. Do you have to be 18 years old?
    No, but most employers expect at minimum a high school diploma as a hiring requirement. As far as being employed as a temporary worker, there are some companies that are unable to have anyone under 18 working in their environments due to insurance reasons.

  11. What benefits do you offer your temporary employees?
    We offer vacation and holiday pay. Please ask your consultant for more information regarding these benefits.

  12. How should I dress when I come to your office?
    We suggest that you dress as you would for any job interview.
